W. Derek May, Associate Attorney

Derek attended George Mason University in Northern Virginia and received a Bachelor of Arts in Government and International Politics in 2003.  He attended law school at University of La Verne College of Law in Southern California beginning his first year in Fall 2003.  Derek was accepted into Law Review as a Staff Writer for his second year of law school.
 
Derek wrote a Note and Comment on the Detention of Juvenile Status Offenders that was published in Volume 26 of the Journal of Juvenile Law, a law review journal distributed nationally.  He then was appointed as Editor in Chief of Law Review in his third year.  He supervised the publication of Volume 27 as Editor in Chief of the Journal of Juvenile Law.  He then graduated as valedictorian of the University of La Verne College of Law with a juris doctor in May 2006.  He took the California State Bar exam in July 2006 and was admitted into the California State Bar in December 2006. 
 
Derek joined the Law Offices of Stephen R. Wade in December 2006 as an associate attorney after working as a law clerk for the office since his second year of law school.  He appeared as counsel for clients at various hearings related to Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases.  He also joined the Inland Empire Bankruptcy Forum and has maintained membership since 2007.  Drafted various Motions and Oppositions to Motions in the bankruptcy courts and state courts.  Drafted an appellate brief for the Federal Bankruptcy Appellate Panel and 9th Circuit Federal Court of Appeal.
 
Derek conducts and prepares for adversary trials in the bankruptcy court.  Has successfully represented Plaintiffs in state court trials and obtained judgments in the client’s favor.  He continues to work extensively in the areas of bankruptcy court litigation, motion practice and defense of Debtors who are sued by Creditors in the bankruptcy court.
